The Southern Plains Tribal Health Board’s (SPTHB) Oklahoma Area Tribal Epidemiology Center’s Internship Program will allow academic students to receive the knowledge and experience beyond what would be learned during typical academic studies by providing opportunities to learn and grow through internships. The lessons learned throughout this program will help prepare the student to work in a professional environment and enhance his/her personal growth. The over-all goal of providing the opportunity for an internship is to attract and retain American Indian students or students with an interest with working with American Indians in the American Indian public health sector.

Interns with the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board perform a variety of tasks utilizing skills and knowledge gained in college and from work experience. Multiple programs within the organization provide for internships and each possesses its own unique goals and objectives. A majority of the work will be public health related and focused on American Indian/Alaska Native public health.
